Electrical refit highlights include extensive electrical system upgrades with Blue Seas components, three batteries, Fusion marine stereo, Raymarine ST60 instruments, and chart plotter mounted on a custom angled pedestal guard.
The plumbing systems also was overhauled with a new pressure water system, in-line water filter, a new head, a custom new holding tank and low-permeation sanitary hoses. This boat has none of the scents which are common to boats with older sanitary systems.
Responding to a government-commissioned report on the need for a complete overhaul of the system, the City, on January 1, , formed the Public Service Commission (renamed the Halifax Water Commission in ) to operate and manage the water utility.
Mallard pseudo-penis [ dubious — discuss ] Most male birds e. Among bird species with a penis are paleognathes tinamous and ratites and Anatidae ducks, geese and swans. While most male birds have no external genitalia, male waterfowl Anatidae have a phallus. Most birds mate with the males balancing on top of the females and touching cloacas in a “cloacal kiss”; this makes forceful insemination very difficult.
The phallus that male waterfowl have evolved everts out of their bodies in a clockwise coil and aids in inseminating females without their cooperation. These structures make it harder for males to achieve intromission.
Healey, Ossett At one time, Healey was one of several individual villages that made up the larger settlement of Ossett. Over the years it has gradually been subsumed into the larger conurbation of Ossett, but Healey boasts an interesting and long-standing history dating back to Roman times and before. Some of Ossett’s earliest mills were built at Healey and in turn, the area has seen large scale industrial development with William Gartside’s dye works, the Ossett Gas Company, the Healey railway marshalling yards, coal mines and sewerage farms.
The industrialization of the area led to a number of houses being built for the influx of workers who came to Healey to work in the mills and the dye works. Ancient Beginnings The area of Heley or Healey extends roughly from the bottom of what is now Healey Road, westwards towards Earlsheaton, roughly where the Yorkshire Water Mitchell Laithes sewerage treatment farm is located. In , Northern Archaeological Associates NAA carried out a detailed survey at Healey, specifically in the area known as “Rye Royds”, which is close to the area where the old Mitchell Laithes hospital was located.

History of Technology Heroes and Villains – A little light reading Here you will find a brief history of technology. Initially inspired by the development of batteries, it covers technology in general and includes some interesting little known, or long forgotten, facts as well as a few myths about the development of technology, the science behind it, the context in which it occurred and the deeds of the many personalities, eccentrics and charlatans involved.
You may find the Search Engine , the Technology Timeline or the Hall of Fame quicker if you are looking for something or somebody in particular. Scroll down and see what treasures you can discover. Background We think of a battery today as a source of portable power, but it is no exaggeration to say that the battery is one of the most important inventions in the history of mankind.
Volta’s pile was at first a technical curiosity but this new electrochemical phenomenon very quickly opened the door to new branches of both physics and chemistry and a myriad of discoveries, inventions and applications. The electronics, computers and communications industries, power engineering and much of the chemical industry of today were founded on discoveries made possible by the battery. Pioneers It is often overlooked that throughout the nineteenth century, most of the electrical experimenters, inventors and engineers who made these advances possible had to make their own batteries before they could start their investigations.
The Great Isaac sits in 90 feet of water and is intact lying on it’s port left side. The Great Isaac was a part of the Normandy beach invasion and the captain at the time received a bronze start for meritorious duty under fire. It’s sunk about half way into the sandy bottom and it’s rapidly deteriorating.

August At Attacking during daylight meant that Poles were shot by German machine gun fire. Although many partisan groups were waiting throughout the city, the movement of thousands of young men and women was hard to hide. However, they did not realize the Poles could do such a large attack. However, Castle Square, the police district, and the airport were held by the Germans. However, several major German strongholds remained, and in some areas of Wola the Poles had to retreat.
In Praga , on the east bank of the Vistula, the Poles were sent back into hiding by a large number of German forces. By 4 August most of the city was held by Polish forces.
Bruce Ismay , and the American financier J. The White Star Line faced an increasing challenge from its main rivals Cunard , which had recently launched the Lusitania and the Mauretania —the fastest passenger ships then in service—and the German lines Hamburg America and Norddeutscher Lloyd. Ismay preferred to compete on size rather than speed and proposed to commission a new class of liners that would be larger than anything that had gone before as well as being the last word in comfort and luxury.
Teutonic was replaced by Olympic while Majestic was replaced by Titanic. Majestic would be brought back into her old spot on White Star’s New York service after Titanic’s loss.

CT , to discuss the life and legacy of Tom Hayden. Listen to the podcast here: Tom was a dear friend and colleague: I got the news as soon as I awoke Monday. Even though I knew he was seriously ill, it still came as a shock. It seemed too soon, still too much to do, and too many things I would still like to hear him speak and write about, but now would be unspoken and unwritten.
Tom was a comrade in our same organization, Students for a Democratic Society, and in the same battles for peace and justice before I got to know him well enough to be among those he called his friends. My first indirect contact with him was through typewritten mimeographed pages stapled together in an SDS pamphlet that sold for 10 cents. These were his writings as a student journalist and activist from the front lines of the freedom struggle in Mississippi and Georgia. We also got deeper messages about commitment and physical courage.
We call these fish “Sippers” and can be caught on a small fly which some call a “snot” fly. I tyed a few today on 8 hooks while waiting for the rain to end and keeping an eye on a tornado near Swansboro only about 10 miles away. We also have lots of Spanish Mackerel near the shoals and some Jacks.

Miranda Cain is the founder of the North Preston group, and her goals in starting the organization were to harness the energy of youth, and to showcase the spirit and culture of the historic African Nova Scotian community. Clean Foundation, with the support of Nova Scotia Power, is offering honorariums to supplement the employment grants that Cain received, so more youth can help the community and promote HomeWarming.
Clean staff provided training on the low-income energy efficiency program, and also on workplace safety. Clean will work on the electrically heated homes while Efficiency Nova Scotia will look after non-electrically heated homes. A typical house can lose up to 80 percent of its heat through the walls, floors and roof.
Now, snaking around the snout of Nova Scotia and into the Gulf of Maine is a new, unseen threat to Yarmouth Bar and hundreds of coastal communities in Maine, eastern New England and the Maritimes: The Gulf of Maine — which extends from Cape Cod in Massachusetts to Cape Sable at the southern tip of Nova Scotia, and includes the Bay of Fundy, the offshore fishing banks, and the entire coast of Maine — has been warming rapidly as the deep-water currents that feed it have shifted.
Pershing says that the warming the Gulf of Maine is currently experiencing is unprecedented, both in its speed and temperature. Many of other commercially important bottom-dwelling fish — including cod, pollock and winter flounder — have been withdrawing from Maine and into the southwestern part of the gulf, where the bottom water is cooler.
Endangered right whales have virtually stopped visiting the waters off Lubec and Grand Manan because the tiny cold-loving copepods that they feed on — as do herring and, indirectly, almost everything else in the gulf — are in short supply there. Warm-water invaders are gaining a toehold, and those that already had one are taking over.

Winnipeg rises to a challenge Thelma, who never misses the suppertime news, tried to strike fear into the hearts of her nieces, Tina and Sarah Fontaine. In the end, even she was unable to protect Tina. Police divers discovered her by accident: The year-old mother of seven had been beaten and stabbed. Thelma, an eloquent mother of three, and her husband, Joseph, had been caring for Tina and Sarah since they were three and four, when their father, Eugene, was diagnosed with lymphoma.
Their mother had left the girls as babies. Eugene had been raising the girls on his own in Winnipeg, where he worked at a tire plant. He knew the girls would be better off with Thelma, his aunt, who had helped raise him. In a handwritten note dated Nov. Math was her favourite subject. Her boyfriend was deaf; the pair communicated by texting. Eugene was a constant presence.
